Education & Professional Highlights

Dr. Wilds began his United States Navy career as a radiation health officer, serving aboard the Emory S. Land submarine tender. From there, he attended medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. He attended flight surgeon training and was assigned to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 1 in Patuxent River, MD. Dr. Wilds’s squadron flew the S-3 Viking multirole aircraft, P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft and H-60 Blackhawk helicopter. After his flight surgery tour, he completed his residency in radiation oncology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.

Dr. Wilds was then appointed to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia. There he served as medical director, project manager for prostate brachytherapy and director of clinical research in radiation oncology. During his time in Portsmouth, VA, he was also given the opportunity to serve as the senior medical officer on a provincial reconstruction team in Farah, Afghanistan during 2009-2010. He traveled extensively within his province and throughout Afghanistan assisting the Afghan medical directors in rebuilding their medical infrastructure. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal at the end of his tour. After six years in Virginia, Dr. Wilds elected to transfer to Naval Medical Center San Diego, California. While in San Diego, his duties included staff radiation oncologist, radiation oncology division head, specialty leader for Navy radiation oncology and divisional quality assurance director.

Dr. Wilds retired after more than 27 years of service at the rank of captain. When he is not caring for his patients, Dr. Wilds enjoys cycling, hiking, traveling and reading.
