My approach to patient care is one of collaboration and education. I seek to help people get back to the activities they love through a combination of non-operative and operative methods. I encourage my patients to be open, honest, and inquisitive so that we can work together to find the best treatment option for them.

Education & Professional Highlights

Michael Tracy, MD, MHA, is the only orthopedic surgeon operating at YRMC to have completed a fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery. His elective clinical practice is dedicated to shoulder and elbow surgery for children, adolescents, and adults. He has extensive training and experience with sports injuries of the shoulder and elbow, management of rotator cuff tears and shoulder arthritis, and treatment of fractures in children and adults. Dr. Tracy’s expertise includes surgical management of shoulder instability in athletes, Tommy John elbow ligament reconstruction, rotator cuff repair and reconstruction surgery, and anatomic and reverse shoulder replacement.

Dr. Tracy is a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and graduated as valedictorian from West Scranton High School. He then attended the University of Scranton, where he obtained Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Philosophy summa cum laude. Dr. Tracy spent one year in Wellington, New Zealand, on a Fulbright Fellowship. After returning to the United States, he completed a master’s degree in molecular evolutionary biology at The Pennsylvania State University and an MD degree at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his orthopedic training at Wake Forest Baptist University Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and subsequently pursued a fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Most recently, Dr. Tracy completed a Master of Health Administration from Ohio University.

Dr. Tracy comes to Yuma after practicing for more than a decade in Northeastern Pennsylvania. In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Tracy has maintained a strong interest in medical education and administration. Dr. Tracy has given multiple seminars for the public and regularly lectured to college, medical, and pre-professional students. He also travels throughout the country teaching techniques for shoulder replacement and other shoulder surgeries to residents and practicing physicians. Dr. Tracy was the Director of Orthopedics at Moses Taylor Hospital where he and his team were successful in obtaining the prestigious Joint Commission Certification for Shoulder Replacement.

Outside of his professional activities, Dr. Tracy enjoys spending time with his three children. He runs both road races and obstacle races, participates in extreme fitness programs, and enjoys reading science fiction and the history of physics and mathematics.
