American Nurses Credentialing Center Pathway to Excellence®

Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) joins a leading group of organizations that have received the Pathway to Excellence® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). YRMC is the first hospital in Arizona to receive the designation. The ANCC Pathway to Excellence Program® recognizes health care organizations that demonstrate a commitment to establishing the foundation of a healthy workplace for nursing staff.

American Hospital Association Quest for Quality Prize

In 2021, the American Hospital Association (AHA) awarded Yuma Regional Medical Center one of three Quest for Quality Prize finalists. This award recognizes our commitment to advancing healthcare in our community through high-quality, safe, patient- and family-centered care.

Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association

The Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association (AzHHA) recognized Yuma Regional Medical Center’s dedication to better serve pediatric patients with a 2023 Quality Award in the general acute care hospitals category. Specifically, YRMC received the Community Engagement award, recognizing its dedication to community involvement, with the goal of enhancing healthcare accessibility and overall community well-being.

DNV a global quality assurance organization, partners with hospitals for safer healthcare by providing quality-driven accreditation. Yuma Regional Medical Center has been accredited through DNV-GL – Healthcare, demonstrating we meet or exceed patient safety standards set forth by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. ISO 9001 Certification

Yuma Regional Medical Center has received the ISO 9001: Quality System Certification. The ISO standards promote a process approach for developing, implementing and improving the effectiveness of the quality management system. By utilizing these principles, we ensure we are providing safe and quality patient care every day.

The Southwest Alliance for Excellence (SWAE)

Achievement Award (Level 3)

Yuma Regional Medical Center was awarded the Level 3 Achievement Award by the Southwest Alliance for Excellence. YRMC is one of only three recipients through the Southwest recognized through the 2017 Performance Excellence Program. The Achievement Award recognizes organizations where key processes are beginning to be systematically evaluated and improved.

Commitment Award

Yuma Regional Medical Center also received the Level 2 Commitment Award from the Southwest Alliance for Excellence (SWAE) in 2016. The SWAE Performance Excellence Program applies the same criteria used in the Baldrige National Quality Program to recognize organizations that excel in continuous improvement, quality and performance excellence.

Showcase in Excellence Award

The Southwest Alliance for Excellence (SWAE) has recognized Yuma Regional Medical Center for our process to prevent hospital-acquired pressure ulcers, an important hospital-wide initiative led by our nursing staff and Quality Department. In 2014, we were one of only four organizations in Arizona, Nevada and Utah to receive the Showcase in Excellence Award from SWAE. This award recognizes processes performed in an extraordinary manner as well as those that result in exceptional performance.

In addition, Yuma Regional Medical Center was recognized, in 2015, for our efforts to reduce early elective deliveries for expectant mothers.

Bariatric Surgery

Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP)

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) have recognized our Bariatric Surgery program for providing safe, high-quality care for bariatric surgical patients. To earn this accreditation, our facility had to go through a rigorous review process to prove that it can maintain certain physical resources, human resources and standards of practice.

Blue Distinction® Center

Yuma Regional Medical Center has also been recognized as a Blue Distinction® Center in the area of bariatric surgery. To earn this designation, a healthcare facility must demonstrate success in meeting specific patient safety and quality measures and have received national accreditations at both the facility level and the bariatric care level.

The American College of Radiology recognizes our radiation oncology program for its commitment to the advancement of the practice, science and profession of radiological care.

The American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative recognizes our Cancer Center’s medical oncology program for excellence in pathology, pain management, chemotherapy planning, treatment and providing for patients’ overall well-being.

Yuma Regional Medical Center is strongly committed to medical education, and our unique, three-year Family and Community Residency Program has been granted the highest level of accreditation a residency program can achieve by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Accreditation

American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) is the only nationally recognized non-governmental non-profit pharmacy association that has been accrediting pharmacy residencies since 1962. Residency accreditation is an important driver for excellence, serving as a bridge between education and pharmacy practice. Yuma Regional Medical Center’s Postgraduate Year One Pharmacy residency is accredited through ASHP demonstrating our commitment to the development of our clinical pharmacists who are responsible for medication-related care of our patients.

Association for Clinical Pastoral Education Accreditation

Our CPE Residency Program is recognized nationally for its exceptionally high standards. The program provides post graduate education that offers an empowering learning environment which encourages personal, professional and spiritual growth utilizing an action/reflection model of learning. This model allows students to learn how to provide spiritual and emotional support to individuals of all faiths and beliefs, and to accompany them on their journey.

WONCA Accreditation – World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians

Yuma Regional Medical Center’s Family and Community Medicine Residency Program has been granted accreditation by the World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians (WONCA). YRMC’s family medicine program is the first program in the United States to achieve this status by WONCA.

The American College of Radiology (ACR) recognizes our radiology department for its commitment to advancing the practice, science and profession of radiological care. Additionally, the YRMC Radiology Department has received multiple ACR specialty accreditations including Stereotactic Radiology, Magnetic Resonance Radiology, Ultrasound, Computed Technology, Nuclear Medicine, Position Emission Tomography, and the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE) designation.

American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM)

The AIUM has recognized the Women’s Health Specialists of Yuma Regional Medical Center for the safe and effective use of ultrasound in obstetrics. To achieve accreditation, Yuma Regional met or exceeded nationally recognized standards in the performance and interpretation of diagnostic ultrasound examinations.

Yuma Regional Medical Center received HealthCare’s Most Wired award for excellence in health data security and patient engagement, released by the American Hospital Association’s Health Forum and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) is a not-for-profit organization developing worldwide laboratory standards. Yuma Regional Medical Center is a CLSI member – following CLSI standards to improve testing outcomes, maintain accreditation, bring products to market faster and navigate regulatory hurdles.

Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)

Managed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the CLIA regulates federal standards for testing specimens for assessment or to diagnose, prevent, or treat disease. The CLIA has awarded accreditation to the laboratories of Yuma Regional Medical Center which are on the frontline of protecting our community’s health.

Stroke Program

DNV Primary Stroke Center Certification

Yuma Regional Medical Center is a certified Primary Stroke Center through DNV. We provide care to stabilize and treat most emergent stroke patients. Our stroke pod cares for patients with a broad range of stroke conditions and provides acute services such as speech and rehabilitative therapies.

The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association has honored our Stroke Care program with the Get with the Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. This award recognizes our commitment and success in implementing a high standard of stroke care by ensuring that our stroke patients receive treatment that meets nationally-accepted, evidence-based standards and recommendations.

Healthy Arizona Worksites

Our employee wellness program has been recognized with the 2021 Platinum Award from Healthy Arizona Worksites, a statewide public health initiative offered through a partnership between the Arizona Department of Health Services and the Maricopa County Department of Public Health.

American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery (AIMIS) Center of Excellence

Our facility is proud to be the only facility in the State of Arizona to be designated an AIMIS Center of Excellence. Our Women & Children Services department earned this distinction because of its ability to provide excellence in advanced minimally invasive gynecological and uro-gynecological surgical methods.

Arizona Perinatal Trust

Yuma Regional Medical Center has received the Arizona Perinatal Trust Certification. The Voluntary Certification Program (VCP) is a peer review/quality assurance process for the purpose of reducing morbidity and mortality, improving the care of patients and supporting Arizona’s regionalized perinatal care healthcare system.
